Charlot, micul vagabond, se pripaseste pe langa o trupa de circ, de unde e alungat de politie, care il ia drept hot de buzunare. Fugarit de oamenii ordinii, el patrunde accidental in arena, unde starneste hohotele de ras ale publicului. Incantat de inedita aparitie, patronul circului il angajeaza pe loc, dar curand constata cu neplacere ca aristul de ocazie nu poate fi amuzant la comanda.
